THE STORY

La Scuola Guesthouse is a small, design-led B&B in Lusiana, in the hills of Veneto. The concept is exactly what it sounds like: a 1920s countryside school, used until the 1960s, carefully restored, where the school spirit lives on without feeling gimmicky. You’re in a quiet village between Bassano del Grappa and Asiago, perfectly placed for slow days in nature, food-driven detours, and easy cultural day trips across Veneto (Vicenza’s Palladian heritage, the Prosecco hills, even Verona or Venice if you feel like going bigger).

There are five guest rooms, each built around a school-inspired theme, with a warm, vintage look that feels collected rather than curated. Expect original details from the old building and a mix of antiques and flea-market finds. Some rooms sit under the roof with exposed beams, others open more directly to the garden and village views—either way, the atmosphere is calm, personal, and a little nostalgic (without trying too hard).

Breakfast is a big part of the La Scuola experience—and it’s deliberately unhurried. It’s served late and prepared for you with a mix of sweet and savoury options, using local products and homemade touches. Think wood-fired bread, quality yoghurt and butter, organic jams, croissants, typical cheeses and cured meats, seasonal fruit, and house-made cakes—often enjoyed in what used to be a classroom, or outside under the linden trees when the weather is kind. It’s also worth trying Ricreazione, a modern take on the classic Italian ice-cream cart—100% fresh and self-produced, free from artificial additives, and powered by solar energy.

This is a brilliant base for a Veneto nature break with real variety. You’re on the Asiago Plateau for hiking, e-biking, and wide-open landscapes, with local mountain cheese farms and food producers nearby. The area also has unexpected cultural layers—First World War sites, small villages, and outdoor art spots like Parco del Sojo—while Marostica and Bassano del Grappa are close enough for easy lunches, markets, and slow wandering. La Scuola’s own positioning is clear: come for the quiet and explore Veneto from a place that still feels undiscovered.

La Scuola Guesthouse is run by Valeria and Marco, the couple behind the restoration of this little village school—and you can feel their personality everywhere, from the objects they’ve collected to the way breakfast is served. Their project is also rooted in a broader idea of sustainability and community: preserving the building’s soul, working with local craftspeople, and creating a place that supports the area rather than simply “using” it.
