THE SETTING

Langstrein Hof is a working apple farm just outside Latsch, in South Tyrol’s Vinschgau Valley. Around the house: orchards, irrigation channels, dry slopes and mountain ridges. It is not a typical hotel — there are three apartments, a garden, a pond and a sauna, but no reception desk, no restaurant and none of the usual hotel routine.

The building is modern and simple, with thick concrete walls, untreated wood, large windows and plain balconies. The farm is always close by: blossoms, fruit trees, ladders, crates and the daily work of the orchard. It is a place for travellers who like independence, space and a slower rhythm.

THE ROOMS

There are three studio apartments, each about 42 square meters. They have an open layout with a double bed, a living area, a sofa bed, a kitchen, and a separate bathroom. Each apartment has a balcony overlooking the orchards and mountains.

The studios are simple by design, not bare. Concrete walls add a sense of solidity, while wood makes the spaces feel warm. Large windows let in plenty of light, so the main decoration is the changing view outside—green orchards, pale mountain slopes, and snow higher up in winter. The kitchens are fully equipped. You’ll find dishes, pots, a moka pot, and a French press, so you can easily make breakfast or cook dinner. A baby cot and high chair are available on request. The studios can accommodate up to four people, but they’re especially comfortable for couples or small families who enjoy setting their own pace.

THE FOOD

Langstrein Hof is self-catering. There’s no hotel breakfast or on-site restaurant. Instead, each apartment has its own kitchen, and you can order fresh bread delivery.

There’s a small farm-products corner in the common room, offering items like apple juice, syrups, jams, and dried fruit. These are made on the organic farm, so you get a real taste of what’s grown here. What’s available may change with the seasons.

For lunch and dinner, you’ll find shops, cafés, and restaurants in Latsch. Here, you might make coffee in your apartment, pick up local fruit or cheese, and eat out when it fits your plans, instead of sticking to a hotel schedule.

THE STAY

Outside, the main feature is the garden with a natural swimming pond. It’s perfect for cooling off, not for swimming laps, and there’s a lawn with loungers nearby. The sauna is small and simple, with views outside instead of a closed-in basement feel.

There’s a shared room with a library corner and farm products. It’s practical rather than just decorative—a place to browse, pick up something from the farm, or relax outside your apartment for a bit.

Cyclists and skiers can use a secure, video-monitored storage room with tools. This is handy in a valley where many guests bring bikes or spend lots of time outdoors. There’s on-site parking, including an electric-car charging station.

Guests get free entry to the swimming pool and sauna at Aquaforum Latsch, but you’ll need to bring your own bath towels. A washing machine is available for a fee, and final cleaning is included.

AROUND LANGSTREIN HOF

The Vinschgau is great for active days without much planning. From Langstrein Hof, you can walk or hike on the Sonnenberg, cycle along the Adige river, or start from Latsch for mountain and valley routes.

Merano is close enough for a day trip, with its gardens, cafés, and old town. Further up the valley, Lake Resia feels more northern, with wide water, wind, and the famous church tower rising from the lake. The area also has castles, irrigation paths, apple farms, and small villages along the valley floor.

In winter, things are quieter. The apartments, kitchens, and sauna are ideal for guests who prefer to plan their own days rather than rely on hotel services.

THE OWNERS

Stefanie and Christoph run Langstrein Hof. The farm has been in their family for generations, and the orchards have been organic for over 15 years. The current version of Langstrein Hof combines its farming roots with a modern architectural style. It doesn’t feel like an old farmhouse made over for guests, nor like a design object placed in the countryside. With just three apartments, the surrounding farm, and enough shared space, it feels personal without being overly managed.

GOOD TO KNOW

With just three apartments, availability is limited—book your stay in advance to secure your preferred dates. Prices start at €160–210 per apartment per night for two people, with additional charges for extra guests.

The usual minimum stay is five nights, but flexible options may be possible—just ask if you need a shorter stay.
