THE SETTING

Le Pavadou is a guesthouse in Méthamis, a hilltop village of 450 inhabitants in the Vaucluse, between the Monts de Vaucluse and Mont Ventoux. It is the kind of Provence that still feels village-sized: stone lanes, a church tower, a handful of houses, open views and countryside that starts almost immediately.

The house is a stately Provençal mansion, recently restored with five rooms and a separate gîte. It sits above the valley, with terraces, garden corners and views across the surrounding hills. The charm comes from the old house, the quiet village, the pool, the breakfast table and the fact that you can do a lot — or very little — from the front door. You are close to Mont Ventoux, the Gorges de la Nesque, the lavender around Sault, the vineyards of the Dentelles de Montmirail and the villages of the Vaucluse.

THE ROOMS

Each of the five rooms is designed with a simple, warm Provençal feel. The rooms keep the house’s character with tommettes on the floor, oak details, linen bedding, handcrafted finishes, and soft, natural colours. In some rooms, a colourful scourtin from Nyons adds a small local detail, while the windows frame the village, garden or wider countryside.

There is also Gîte Le Pavadou, a 65 m² apartment for guests who want more independence or a longer stay. It has a living area, a sleeping corner, a sitting and dining space, a king-size bed, a separate bathroom with a shower, and a fully equipped kitchen. From the gîte, you step onto a spacious terrace overlooking the valley — a strong option if you like breakfast outside or a quiet glass of wine at the end of the day.

THE FOOD

Breakfast is served outside when the weather is kind, or indoors around the large table in the common room when the morning is cooler. The feeling is relaxed and local: fresh bread, pastries, fruit, coffee, eggs, yoghurt, jams, and local cheeses. For guests staying in the gîte or booking the house as a group rental, breakfast can be arranged as an extra on request.

There is no in-house restaurant, but the shared kitchen can be used after checking with the host, and the garden has a gas barbecue for dinners outside.

THE STAY

Le Pavadou is built around the garden and the view. The large outdoor space features several terraces, shaded areas, dining tables, loungers, and enough room for guests to find their own spot without feeling crowded. The swimming pool measures 12 x 5 metres and sits amid greenery, offering a wide view of the Monts de Vaucluse. Depending on the weather, it can be heated. Inside, there is a common lounge with a communal bar, a large table, a reading corner and space to gather. It works well in cooler weather, after a day out, or for groups who have rented the property together.

Cyclists are particularly well looked after. Le Pavadou offers secure bike storage, a bike-cleaning area, basic tools, a pump, charging points for Garmin or Di2, a washing machine for sportswear, an early breakfast on request, GPX routes, and local cycling tips. Massages, picnic arrangements and bike reservations can also be organised.

AROUND LE PAVADOU

Méthamis is well placed for discovering a quieter, hillier part of Provence. The village sits near the Gorges de la Nesque, one of the most beautiful routes in the area, with limestone cliffs, viewpoints and a road that cyclists know well. It is not an easy little Sunday ride, but it is a memorable one.
Mont Ventoux is the big reference nearby. For cyclists, it is almost a pilgrimage; for everyone else, it is still worth the drive for the views, the landscape and that strange white summit that looks different from almost anywhere in the Vaucluse.

Sault is a good direction for lavender in season, while the Dentelles de Montmirail bring another side of the region: vineyards, limestone ridges, walking paths and villages such as Gigondas, Beaumes-de-Venise and Séguret. Wine tasting fits naturally into a stay here, especially if you like Rhône Valley reds.
For markets and village days, Carpentras, Pernes-les-Fontaines, Venasque, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, and Bédoin are all worth keeping in mind. Gordes and Roussillon are possible too, but Le Pavadou is better suited to travellers who do not need every day to be a greatest-hits tour of Provence.

THE OWNERS

Le Pavadou is the project of Tine and Stef, two Belgians who spent years coming to Provence with their family before deciding to create something more permanent in Méthamis. Their connection to the village began with holidays, local friendships, and a house in the surrounding hills, before the old mansion that would become Le Pavadou came up for sale.

Today, Stef and Gloria are part of the daily welcome, with a hospitality style that feels easy and generous. They know the area well and can help with cycling routes, walks, restaurants, markets, massages, picnics or simply the right kind of day depending on the weather.

GOOD TO KNOW

The property can also be rented privately for groups from mid-September to the end of May. Check-in is from 4 pm, and check-out is by 11 am. There is no private parking on the property, but village parking is available at around 40 metres from the guesthouse.

Rates start at €225 per night for two people in low season, with longer-stay special rates and higher prices in mid- and high season.
