Haus am Turm is a boutique hotel in Vipiteno (Sterzing), South Tyrol, where alpine charm meets sleek design. Housed in a majestic 14th-century townhouse next to the tall granite Zwölferturm (that bell tower you’ll see in many postcards), it’s been lovingly restored into 12 sunlit rooms that blend history and comfort. Whether you arrive in summer or winter, the views over the town’s pastel façades, the surrounding mountains, or the garden below are a constant delight.
The rooms are divided into four categories—Vinzenz, Turmblick, Enzenberg, and Loggia—and range from cozy doubles to family-friendly suites for up to four people. The flooring is warm oak parquet, the furniture is by Plinio il Giovane (yes, very elegant), and the bedding is jacquard cotton made to feel as soft as a hug. Some rooms have balconies or loggias overlooking the town or garden; soundproof windows, walk-in showers, and thoughtful design details mean you feel completely at ease from the moment you step in.
Breakfast here is a slow ritual, full of care. You’ll find freshly baked breads, local marmalades, fruit, fragrant coffee, and high-quality local products. It’s not just about the food; it’s about taking time with your morning, leaning back in your chair, watching the light change, listening to the bells—anything but rush.
There’s a panoramic roof terrace where you can sip wine while looking at the Alps, a small sky-sauna (blue-tiled, intimate, magical under a starry sky), and a vinoteca/restaurant—Vin Zenz—serving regional dishes and wine. Then there are the little touches: the courtesy bar (coffee, tea, fresh fruit all day), room service, laundry, and a ski/sports depot for winter gear.
In winter, you’re minutes away from skiing or snow-shoeing; in summer, hikes, mountain-bike rides, or simply wandering the medieval streets of Vipiteno. The ActiveCard Vipiteno (often included) offers free local transport, access to museums, and discounts on mountain railways. Culture lovers will enjoy exploring nearby Brixen or Bolzano, artisans’ shops in town, and local markets.
Owners Veronika and Daniel are the kind of hosts who make you feel seen. In 2021, they reimagined this centuries-old house without erasing its soul. Clean lines, local artists’ work, plants in every corner, luxurious touches where they matter—all brought together with warm, personal hospitality: They greet you, help you with directions, know which wine pairs nicely with dinner, etc. They didn’t aim for grandiosity but for intimacy, comfort, and memory-making.
