THE STORY

Two-thirds of Switzerland belongs to the area of German influence. In the year 400, the German tribes conquered this territory from the Romans. Since the defeat at the hands of the French troops near Milan, in the s. XVI, Switzerland has remained neutral in armed conflicts. Not having suffered the horrors of war on its soil, the country has enjoyed economic stability, making it one of the richest in the world. Today, Switzerland is an example on both political and social levels. The direct democracy exercised by its citizens means that 100,000 signatures force a public vote on any matter.

EAT & DRINK

Swiss chocolate is considered one of the best in the world for its quality and flavor. Here, milk chocolate was invented. The fondue is a pot of melted cheese in which diners dip pieces of bread. Emmental cheese, with its characteristic holes formed during fermentation, is one of the most iconic products of the country. Another of the most famous cheeses are the Appenzeller and Gruyères. To taste a typical lunch in Switzerland, we recommend you order sausages, würste, accompanied by rösti, a kind of crispy potato omelet without eggs.

unexpected plans

The Verzasca Valley is a hidden paradise surrounded by steep mountains. Through gorges and eddies runs the most transparent water you’ve ever seen, a fantasy environment whose prey appears in the opening scene of the mythical movie Goldeneye.
The Appenzell region, famous for its cheese, is home to the Äscher Mountain Inn. Lake Silvaplana is an idyllic place with green grassy shores, surrounded by forested hills and protected by a landscape of snow-capped mountains in the background.

BEST SEASON

We recommend the end of spring to enjoy the lakes at their best and the beginning of autumn for the best walks. June is also a mild month, although there is a higher chance of rain. January and February are perfect for enjoying the snow outside the window while warming up around a fondue.

HOW TO GET THERE

The Zurich, Geneva, and Basel airports will welcome you with open arms. You can also get there by making a road trip from the roads of neighboring countries. The country’s train network is another romantic option for a journey you’ll never forget.
