THE STORY

Belgium, at the crossroads of Western Europe, blends medieval charm, royal heritage, and modern creativity in a compact yet culturally rich nation. From the cobbled alleys of Bruges and Ghent to the Art Nouveau elegance of Brussels, the country tells tales of medieval guilds, Flemish Masters like Rubens, and political influence as the capital of Europe. Belgium’s layered history is reflected in its three official languages—Dutch, French, and German—and its deeply rooted traditions in chocolate, comics, and craftsmanship.

EAT & DRINK

Belgian cuisine is a celebration of indulgence, tradition, and craftsmanship. Savour moules-frites, steaming mussels paired with golden fries, or carbonade flamande, a rich beef stew simmered in beer. Try crisp Belgian waffles on the go, topped with chocolate or fresh cream, and don’t miss the world-famous pralines, handcrafted chocolates bursting with ganache or nut fillings. Pair your meal or dessert with one of Belgium’s Trappist beers, brewed by monks and celebrated worldwide for their depth and complexity.

unexpected plans

Beyond the must-see Grand Place and medieval cities, Belgium hides unforgettable experiences. Tour the surreal underground world of the Caves of Han, one of Europe’s most impressive natural cave networks. Wander through the Sahara of Lommel, a rare Belgian desert of white sand dunes surrounded by pine forests. Explore Hallerbos Forest in spring, when its bluebells carpet the woods in otherworldly purple. For a quirky twist, visit the comic mural trail in Brussels, where over 60 walls bring Tintin, Lucky Luke, and other heroes to life across the city.

BEST SEASON

The best time to visit Belgium is in the spring and fall, when the weather is pleasant, festivals are abundant, and crowds are smaller. Spring brings blooming landscapes and outdoor café culture, while Autumn is perfect for savouring Belgian beer and food festivals. Summer offers lively outdoor events and music festivals, but with more tourists. Winter brings festive Christmas markets, especially in Bruges and Liège, ideal for a cosy getaway with mulled wine and waffles.

HOW TO GET THERE

Belgium is exceptionally well-connected. Brussels Airport (BRU) is the main international gateway, with flights from all over Europe and the world.  High-speed trains link Belgium to Paris, Amsterdam, London, and Cologne, making it easy to reach by rail. Once in Belgium, the national train system is fast, reliable, and ideal for city-hopping between Brussels, Ghent, Bruges, Leuven, and Antwerp. Public trams, bikes, and buses make exploring each city simple.
