THE STORY

Villa Mamo is a full private villa rental set on the blurred border between Tuscany and Umbria, near Castiglione del Lago. The setting is classic countryside—vineyards, wheat and sunflower fields—yet the Villa itself feels confidently contemporary. Originally a 1768 monastery, it was renovated in 2004 and then reworked again in 2023/2024, keeping the farmhouse bones while turning it into a place made for beautiful gatherings.

The Villa accommodates up to 18 guests across 8 rooms and 7 bathrooms, split between the main Villa, a separate poolhouse and a studio. The style is warm, vintage-meets-modern—carefully sourced antiques beside custom pieces made by local artisans in wood, stone and metal. The team behind the Villa is strongly food-driven, and stays can be complemented by private chef moments and in-house food and drink experiences, from pasta-making to aperitivo culture, depending on what you want your week to feel like.

Outside, there’s a large swimming pool, a pergola with an 18-seat dining table under a canopy of vines, a wood-fired oven, a fire pit set in a meadow, and both flower and vegetable gardens. It’s the kind of layout that naturally creates a daily rhythm—breakfast in the shade, afternoons by the pool, then everyone gathering back together for long dinners as the light drops. A bespoke cocktail bar adds to that “we’re not going out tonight” feeling in the best way.

You’re perfectly placed for a “best of Tuscany + Umbria” week: Montepulciano is around 20 minutes, Cortona about 25, and Castiglione del Lago + Lake Trasimeno roughly 15, with ferries to the lake’s small islands. The rolling hills of Val d’Orcia and towns like Pienza are an easy day trip, and bigger classics—Siena or Florence—are doable when you feel like a longer drive.

Villa Mamo is run by Louisa Jane & Federico – an Irish-Italian duo with a clear obsession for detail, hospitality, and how a house should feel when it’s full of people. Fede’s background is rooted in food and beverage and events, while Lou Lou brings a sharp creative eye shaped by fashion and styling. Together, they’ve created a boutique villa that’s not just beautiful but deliberately designed for memorable weeks.
