Number 5 is a beautifully restored 16th-century townhouse in Saint-Paul-de-Vence. It’s one of those rare stays where the setting does half the work: step outside, and you’re immediately in the medieval lanes of one of Provence’s most iconic villages; step back in, and you’re wrapped in calm, design-led comfort.Â
The house is arranged into three spacious suites, each on its own floor, making it perfect for three couples travelling together. Each suite is generously sized, centred around king-size beds dressed with French linen sheets. Bathrooms are a highlight: a refined blend of zellige tiles, natural stone sinks, and either a copper or cast-iron bathtub (or a large separate shower, depending on the suite). On the ground floor, one suite opens onto its own private landscaped terrace overlooking the ramparts.
This is not a hotel setup, and that’s part of the appeal. There’s no reception and no breakfast service—just the freedom of a house in the centre of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, with a fully equipped open-plan kitchen where you can make coffee and start the day slowly. Mornings can be as simple as a bakery run or a café stop in the village. Also, a parking space is available on request, which is a real advantage in the medieval centre.
Saint-Paul-de-Vence is made for slow cultural days: galleries, small boutiques, and long lunches with views. Beyond the village, the area opens up fast—coastal day trips on the Côte d’Azur, countryside drives through the arrière-pays, and easy access to the region’s markets, wineries and hilltop villages. It’s the perfect base if you want both: a “postcard” medieval village to wake up in, and the freedom to explore the Riviera from a calmer point.
Number 5 is the project of Katie & Oli from the UK. This interior design duo reimagined the house from floor to ceiling with a clear intention: to preserve its historic charm while making it feel quietly luxurious and deeply liveable. The result is a Saint-Paul-de-Vence townhouse that feels genuinely unique: character-rich, design-smart, and made for travellers who care about atmosphere as much as location.
