Marcelle en Camargue is an adults-only boutique guesthouse tucked within the medieval walls of Aigues‑Mortes in southern France. Born from a meeting with Marcelle—an octogenarian whose spirited kindness inspired the name—the house is composed of two 19th-century artisan homes thoughtfully merged to surround a secluded courtyard, saltwater pool, and shaded préau with fireplace. This intimate enclave, just steps from cobbled alleys and Provençal eateries, effortlessly balances historic charm with refined, discreet luxury.
The maison offers two rooms and one suite, each housed on its own level to ensure privacy. Sous l’Olivier opens directly onto the courtyard at ground level, while the striking Royale Marcelle suite (41 m²) occupies the first floor, complete with cozy reading lounge and freestanding tub. Topping it off is Toit Mon Toit, a luminous rooftop hideaway crowned with skylights and views over the town’s terracotta roofs and distant marshes. Every space features limestone flooring, reclaimed beams, designer furnishings, plush linens, and fully air-conditioned comfort.
Each morning, guests are welcomed with a continental breakfast that reflects local flavors and the slow rhythms of Camargue living. Seasonal fruits, freshly baked breads and viennoiseries, homemade jams, cheeses, and strong coffee or tea are served around the pool or in the cozy living room.
Marcelle en Camargue invites relaxation through its range of laid-back facilities. Spend afternoons lounging on sunbeds by the heated saltwater pool, recharge by the outdoor fireplace under the pergola, or browse the curated boutique offering local finds and signature items like eco‑terrazo candles.
The location is ideal for immersing in Camargue’s wild spirit and medieval heritage. Wander the ramparts and narrow streets of Aigues‑Mortes, embark on horseback or bike tours into the surrounding salt flats and marshes, or enjoy guided bird-watching trips to spot flamingos and the region’s iconic white horses.
