THE STORY

La Maison d’Ambronay is a charming guesthouse in the heart of Ambronay, a picturesque village in the Ain department of eastern France. Situated between Lyon and Geneva, this boutique accommodation occupies a beautifully restored 19th-century primary school, directly facing the historic 11th-century Abbaye Notre-Dame d’Ambronay. The village is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and hosts the annual Festival d’Ambronay, celebrating Baroque music in the abbey’s exceptional acoustics.

The guesthouse offers four spacious and uniquely decorated rooms, each named after French primary school grades: CE1, CE2, CM1, and CM2. These 50-square-meter rooms blend the building’s educational past with contemporary comfort. Each room includes a private bathroom with a walk-in shower, parquet floors, and views of the village’s landmarks or the serene garden.

Guests can enjoy a delightful continental or vegetarian breakfast served daily in the communal dining area or, during warmer months, in the garden. The breakfast features local specialties, such as the ‘brioche à l’ancienne,’ alongside sourdough bread, yogurt, fruits, eggs, and cheeses, providing a nourishing start to the day.

The property includes a tranquil garden, a terrace, a coffee shop, and a bar. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking, cycling, paddling, canoeing, and golfing in the picturesque landscapes of the Ain department. The proximity to the Abbaye Notre-Dame d’Ambronay allows guests to attend concerts and cultural events, especially during the renowned Festival d’Ambronay.

La Maison d’Ambronay is owned and managed by Nathalie, who has transformed the former school into a welcoming haven that honors its historical roots. Her attention to detail and warm hospitality ensure that guests feel at home, making their stay a memorable experience steeped in comfort and cultural richness.
