Frangimare La Malandrina is a small, design-forward guesthouse in Malfa, on Salina Island—a quiet, flower-filled corner of the Aeolian Islands where the days naturally revolve around sea swims, volcanic hikes, and long, slow dinners. It feels like a “place of the heart” more than a standard hotel: intimate, cared for, and scented with jasmine and citrus the moment you step into the garden.
Accommodation is intentionally limited, with four independent rooms designed as personal, characterful spaces rather than copy-paste categories. Expect a bold, eclectic style—patterned fabrics, vintage touches and curated objects. Many stays here are shaped by the terraces: the experience is built around stepping outside in the morning, sea in the distance, breakfast arriving at your private outdoor table.
Breakfast is beautifully presented, generous, and delivered in a way that fits the La Malandrina rhythm, often enjoyed quietly on a private terrace before the island gets warm. It’s the kind of breakfast that makes you postpone your plans by half an hour, then thank yourself for it.
The garden is a big part of the story: an “explosion of colour” with prickly pears, roses, citrus trees, olive trees, and intensely fragrant night-blooming jasmine framing the infinity pool and sun terrace. There’s even a bocce court for sunset games that naturally turn into aperitivo time. If you want to elevate the week, extras can be arranged, including a private cook, grocery delivery, aperitivo moments, and a private boat with skipper.
Salina is made for balancing “do something” and “do nothing”. From La Malandrina, you can walk to nearby beaches for a quick swim, then come back for pool time and shade, before heading out to explore the island’s villages, viewpoints and food spots. For a more effortless island loop, e-scooters can be arranged, and on boat days, Salina opens up in the best way—hidden coves, water that shifts colour by the hour, and the freedom to hop between sea and land without overplanning.
Behind Frangimare La Malandrina is a very personal project: it began in 2020 with Maurizio and Paolo, who decided to turn a long-held idea into a real place on Salina, and it grew in 2022 when Serena joined and moved to the island to bring her creativity and guest-focused care into daily life. That origin story explains the feeling here—warm, slightly eclectic, attentive without being formal, and built around small pleasures done properly.
