Hidden among pine and oak trees just a few kilometres inland from the coast between Marina di Grosseto and Principina a Mare, Casa Cometa is a revived farmhouse that whispers old-world Tuscany and contemporary warmth. Once a working barn until the 1950s, it was lovingly restored in 2025 by two cousins who returned to their native Maremma with a shared love for design, heritage, and hospitality.
On the ground floor, the former stable and storage quarters have become communal living spaces with vaulted wooden ceilings, original terracotta floors, and a large, inviting fireplace, along with Chitra, the master suite, which offers a king-size bed, a working fireplace and an en-suite bathroom. Upstairs, bedrooms are spread across the upper floors: Vega on the first floor features vintage-style tiles and a bathtub, while rooms like Meissa, Cassiopea and Andromedae pair antique furnishings or reclaimed wallpaper with modern beds and crisp linens.
Mornings at Casa Cometa are about gentle awakenings and slow breakfasts. The communal table — indoors or in the shaded garden under the pines — is laid with breads, local produce, cheeses, jams, fruits and good coffee, often sourced from nearby farms and producers.
The house doesn’t chase modern excess — it offers what matters. A large communal living room with fireplace, a roomy dining area, a well-equipped kitchen (used by staff or guests if the whole house is rented) and a sprawling shaded garden all invite lingering. Outdoor furniture, soft grass, and quiet corners under the trees make the gardens a favourite spot to read, chat, or pause.
From Casa Cometa, the coast, the forest, and wild Maremma landscapes are all within reach. You can lose yourself in pine-scented walks through the nearby woodland, cycle to the sea, or drive to charming Tuscan villages and coastal beaches. On some evenings, the house transforms: dinner by candlelight, vinyl playing in the background, laughter echoing under the wooden beams — the kind of simple magic that stays long after the journey ends.
Casa Cometa is the dream project of Chiara and Margherita – young, creative, deeply rooted in Maremma — who decided to breathe new life into a family farmhouse. With a background in design and art, they kept the place’s original soul — wooden beams, terracotta floors, worn corners — and layered it with subtle design touches, warm textiles, and a sense of home. Their hospitality feels personal: guiding you through the region’s hidden spots, sharing a bottle of their own limited-production wine, sometimes even tossing pizza dough in the kitchen while vinyl records spin. Casa Cometa is not a hotel. It’s a living, breathing house — and every guest is welcomed like family.
