Château de Chavigny is a boutique guesthouse in the Loire Valley, set on a hill in Chambourg-sur-Indre, just outside Loches. Surrounded by the countryside and within easy reach of some of the region’s most famous châteaux, it’s a rare kind of stay: you get the romance of a château address, but with a calm, uncluttered atmosphere that makes you want to slow down the moment you arrive.
The rooms at Chavigny are designed to feel restful and quietly elegant, with leafy views over the park and a balance of old and new that never feels “themed”. Comfort is properly considered: all-natural pocket-sprung king beds, Egyptian cotton bedding, White Company towels, Molton Brown toiletries, and organic teas and coffee. TVs are intentionally left out, which suits the whole spirit of the place—more countryside reset than screen time.
Mornings gather in Le Pressoir, the château’s former press room, now the welcoming heart of the house. The setting still carries its original details—stone press, carved pillars, hand-cut tiles—and breakfast is served as a generous, regional spread that feels exactly right for the Loire: simple, fresh, and unhurried. In the early evening, the same room becomes a relaxed spot for a drink, with a selection of local wines, beers and soft drinks.
Outside, the château sits within a walled, English-style park—neatly cut lawns, winding gravel paths, and centennial trees, with seating tucked into different corners depending on whether you want sun, shade, privacy, or the best view. A little apart from the house, a saltwater swimming pool is discreetly set into the landscape, facing the valley.
Chavigny is an easy base for exploring the Loire Valley châteaux—from Chenonceau and Amboise to Villandry—while staying close to quieter gems like Loches, Montrésor, and the rose-filled village of Chédigny. If you like being outdoors, the Cyclo Bohème cycling route runs right past the property, and the surrounding Sud Touraine landscape is full of small roads and forests made for slow rides and walks. Wine lovers are also well placed for tastings in Touraine.
Château de Chavigny is the new project of Ben and Michael, who previously ran a guesthouse near La Rochelle before setting their sights on a larger, long-term dream: a château life in the Loire Valley. With Chavigny, they’re opening a fresh chapter—taking their experience in boutique hospitality and applying it to a grander setting, while keeping the same focus on calm rooms, beautiful shared spaces, and a warm, unforced welcome.
