Tucked into a quiet street in the heart of Lisbon’s historic Baixa-Alfama district, The Lisboans invites you not just to stay—but to live a little like a local. Housed in a lovingly restored 19th-century factory set atop Roman and Pombaline ruins, the building itself is a mix of the city’s layered past and contemporary design flair. With the Tagus River just a few minutes’ stroll away, the cafés, trams and tile-covered façades of old Lisbon right outside your door, The Lisboans offers prime city access.
Inside, you’ll find 15 individually styled serviced apartments, ranging from one-bedroom to spacious two-bedroom penthouses. Each space features high ceilings, big windows that flood the rooms with Lisbon’s warm light, and design touches that reflect the city’s spirit: hand-made Portuguese tiles, locally woven textiles, vintage pieces sourced from flea markets, and contemporary furniture. Many apartments come with kitchenettes or full kitchens.
Mornings at The Lisboans are delightfully un-hotel-like. Your breakfast arrives at your door in a cute tote bag (or is stocked in your fridge) with fresh bread, croissants, local butter, jam, fruit and espresso or juice—letting you choose your moment: breakfast in bed, on a balcony, or while watching Lisbon come alive.
Situated in the lively heart of the city, The Lisboans makes spontaneous exploration effortless. Step out your door and wander through winding alleys to the cathedral, ride the famous tram 28, browse tile-clad façades in Alfama, or sip a glass of vinho verde on a café terrace. For longer outings, you can roam to Chiado, Bairro Alto or the riverfront. If you do want ideas, the hosts will point you to the best pasteis de nata, hidden viewpoints, or riverside swings for a sunset moment.
The Lisboans is the labour of love of a small group of Lisbon-based creatives—led by Tânia Fonseca and Isaac Almeida—who dreamed of creating a home-away-from-home that deeply reflects the city they love. Their fingerprints are everywhere—from the restoration of the factory building, to the furniture pieces, to the neighbourhood recommendations they share with guests. Warm, personal, and attentive, their hospitality invites you to feel less like a visitor and more like a new Lisboeta for a while.
