THE STORY

Tucked on the shoreline of the tiny fishing village of Sørvågen on Moskenesøya Island, Holmen Lofoten sits where fjords, peaks and sky merge under Arctic light. Here, the midnight sun lingers, and in winter, the northern lights dance across the water. The hotel occupies restored fisherman’s cabins, perched between sea and mountain, offering a getaway that feels both elemental and luxuriously alive.

Holmen Lofoten invites you into a handful of beautifully evolved cabins: old rorbu structures that once housed the hardy cod-fishing crews, now reborn as quiet refuges. Some retain their timber walls and original shape, while other rooms fuse rustic forms with modern design—think wide windows, sleek Scandinavian furnishings, and views straight out to sea and the mountains.

Morning with a complete breakfast featuring fresh local produce, strong coffee, and a light Nordic spread served in a bright communal space or by the water’s edge. The spirit is quiet indulgence: savour smoked fish, crisp bread, fruit and yoghurt, while the light creeps across the peaks. Hello to slow mornings above the Arctic Circle.

At Holmen Lofoten, the restaurant is anything but ordinary. It’s a culinary expedition on the edge of the world. The open-kitchen space welcomes you to watch chefs work, hear the sizzle of halibut, and lean in to catch the taste of cloudberries, seaweed, or wild mushrooms harvested just hours earlier.

The menu is seasonal and intimate—booking ahead is essential—and you might find yourself dining beneath northern lights (if you are lucky enough to see them) or the midnight sun, savouring food that is surprising, grounded, and beautifully wild.

From here, you’re at the edge of experiences. Hike into glacial hills, paddle among the islands, watch the auroras in silence, or join the house-led foraging and fishing expeditions that feed the kitchen. The region invites you to immerse yourself: wild mountains, ancient cod routes, midnight sun swims, northern lights, and the quiet crackle of seafood on the grill back at base.

Holmen Lofoten is a family-run story brought to life by Ingunn Rasmussen and her team, converting old fishing chalets into a destination where nature, design and hospitality meet. Their vision: restore, respect and reveal—so guests feel the salt-sprayed history and the present-time luxury at once. Personal, deliberate and elemental.
