Château de Sibra is a historic estate within the Ariège department of the Occitanie region in southwestern France. Nestled within a vast 15-hectare estate of rolling meadows, woodlands, and ornamental gardens, this beautifully restored 19th-century château offers an idyllic retreat surrounded by nature. Located in the charming village of Lagarde, it is perfectly positioned between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, with the majestic Pyrenees forming a breathtaking backdrop.
Château de Sibra offers a variety of accommodations, blending historical elegance with modern comfort. Inside the château, five uniquely designed guest rooms feature antique furnishings, high ceilings, and views of the park or courtyard. The former outbuildings have been transformed into two spacious apartments and a cozy studio, each with private kitchens and living areas. For larger groups, the Maison du Métayer provides a holiday home for up to 14 guests with a communal kitchen, dining area, and private garden. Each space is thoughtfully curated to offer a refined yet welcoming retreat in the heart of the French countryside.
Guests are treated to a delightful breakfast each morning, served on the terrace or in the dining room. The breakfast features fresh, local produce, including pastries, fruits, cheeses, and eggs prepared to order, providing a perfect start to the day.
The property boasts a seasonal outdoor swimming pool within the expansive park, providing a refreshing escape during warmer months. Guests can also explore the beautifully landscaped gardens, relax in the shared lounges, or enjoy a good book in the library. The Château’s terraces offer picturesque views, ideal for unwinding with a glass of local wine.
Nature enthusiasts can explore numerous hiking and cycling trails in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The nearby Lac de Montbel provides sailing, rowing, and swimming opportunities. Cultural attractions include visits to Cathar castles, such as Château de Montségur, and the medieval town of Mirepoix, known for its vibrant markets and historical architecture.
The château is owned and operated by Sibylle, a Swiss architect who purchased the property in 2017 and oversaw its meticulous restoration. The owner’s dedication to preserving the Château’s historical integrity while incorporating modern comforts ensures guests enjoy a unique and memorable stay.
