La Manufacture Royale de Lectoure is an 18th-century historical monument located in the heart of Lectoure, a picturesque town in the Gers department of Occitanie. Initially built in 1754 by architect Pierre Racine as a royal tannery, this remarkable building has been meticulously restored and transformed into a charming guesthouse and cultural venue. Situated along the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, it offers travelers a unique blend of history, comfort, and artistic inspiration.
The guesthouse features five thoughtfully designed rooms, each decorated in soft, gentle hues that create a serene atmosphere. The rooms are located in the house’s east wing, with one on the ground floor for easy accessibility. Guests are treated to views of the southern landscape and, on clear days, the distant Pyrenees mountains.
Each morning, a generous breakfast is served in the charming dining area. It features a selection of ham, cheeses, artisanal bread, and eggs sourced from local producers. Homemade jams and seasonal fruit salad add a touch of sweetness, while yogurts, granola, and freshly baked cakes offer hearty options.
La Manufacture Royale de Lectoure hosts exhibitions, painting workshops, cooking classes, and other cultural events, fostering a vibrant community atmosphere. Additionally, a wing of the house has been designed as a vacation rental, complete with a private garden and swimming pool, accommodating up to 14 guests. This space is ideal for families or groups seeking a private retreat. The surrounding town of Lectoure offers a rich array of cultural and historical sites to explore.
Christèle Ageorges, a French interior design journalist, stylist, and set designer, and her husband, Hubert Derlance, restored and transformed La Manufacture Royale de Lectoure. In 2017, they discovered the abandoned tannery while walking the Camino de Santiago and were inspired to breathe new life into the historic building. Their dedication to preserving its heritage while creating a welcoming space for guests is evident throughout the property.
